Why KL Internet Speed is Slower than Singapore?

By On August 16, 2010 Under Internet, Technology

A question I’m always being asked, why the knn Malaysia internet speed is so slow!?

singaporecable

Screenshot above is the undersea cable map of this region. Not difficult to spot out that Singapore has 14 cables landed, while the entire peninsular Malaysia population only rely on 9 cable lines! As for KL, the nearest one cable landing is in Malacca. So, no reason Kuala Lumpur can be faster than Singapore unless rely on other method such as satellite.

I just wonder, does the width of the marker mean the actual width of the cable? Because all markers connected to Malaysia are miserably skinny.

Thanks to CableMap providing us the world undersea cable map.  Hope this answer all your doubt.

If any of you have anything you’d like to add, please contribute by commenting below. Thanks!

Thanks for your info. You can just mouseover to the line… Obviously, the width shows the different bandwidth of cable…
