How to Get Rid of Minimized Live Messenger from Windows 7 Taskbar

By On January 21, 2010 Under Microsoft, Software

One thing we love about Windows 7 is the taskbar’s application pinning feature. It allows users to pin their frequent access applications directly on top. However recently, I overcome one annoying thing is some applications such as Microsoft Windows Messenger Live and latest Skype beta found their ways to stay on the taskbar even you have minimized it.

Here is a simple tip how not to let those applications invade your taskbar.

msnmsgr

Go to msnmsgr.exe, it is located at C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger.

compatibility

In the Compatibility tab, choose "Windows Vista". So in this case, the application will run in a Vista simulation environment and couldn’t pin itself to your taskbar anymore.

The reason to choose “Windows Vista” is because Vista UI and working environment is the nearest to Windows 7. You also can choose XP, but just in some cases the Aero UI might not work properly.

If any of you have anything you’d like to add, please contribute by commenting below. Thanks!
