Hari Haji Malacca Trip: Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball

By On November 29, 2009 Under food, Life, Photography, Travel

Marshall, EngChin, Elfred, me, Johnson and his wife went to Malacca on the Hari Haji. It was a 2 days 1 night short trip. In the first day, we had six meals, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 2 dinners and 1 supper. It was definitely a Malacca food trip crash course.

We set off for Malacca around 6:30am from Johor Bahru and reached our destination around 8:30am. It was so early that I have perception that the traffic in Malacca was good. Later that day, I learned that the traffic in Malacca town was quite bad.

So take a peek of the traffic at the Malacca Clock Tower on the Hari Haji morning.

If you have followed my Cherating trip blog post, EngChin is always our model for photography. Since he is the only one doesn’t acquire any camera, so just accept your fate. haha

Our first stop was the famous Malacca chicken rice ball. As Marshall advised, we have our early meal in Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball shop located at Jonker Street. However when we arrived, the restaurant was already fully packed, lucky it was just a small queue ahead of us.

Only this shop opens such early morning, I guess they try to avoid directly competition with the rest chicken rice ball shops along the same street.

So we ordered 1 chicken and 6 plate of rice balls. I tried the rest of the chicken rice ball shops before in Jonker Street, except this. However, don’t ask me which one the best, I only have short term memory for food stuff.

To me, the chicken of Chung Wah tasted the same as normal chicken rice stall we can get outside. Nevertheless, the chicken rice ball was delicious! So, if you are just very particular on craving good chicken rice ball, you won’t disappointed with this.

I guess we were too hungry already, in a while we finished our first meal and plan to heading towards to our second breakfast –Nyonya Laksa, it was just few streets away. While we were leaving, I heard that the shop had ran out of chicken rice ball! Oh my, people behind now not only need to queue up for empty seats and also waiting the shop to make more chicken rice ball.

It is always a wise decision to go for chicken rice ball as early as you could.
