I felt the internet speed these few days was not stable at home. Therefore, did some search of Singapore internet speed and found some interesting facts about it.
According to the latest report from Communications Workers of America (CWA), Singapore has been ranked 24th worldwide for the average download speed of 7.26Mbps. The first place is South Korea with the average of 20.4 Mbps. In Asia, Singapore is ranked right after Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. Even USA only ranked at 28th place.
The result is quite reasonable. Most of the Singapore users are using cable broadband instead of older dial-up. The figure of dial-up subscribers is around 92k while number of broadband subscribers is around 5.1 million. In the market, the average speed for middle range cable plan is around 8Mbps. However, currently only SingNet is still using ADSL and by adopting latest technology, SingNet is capable to keep up with cable speed. However, the maximum speed ADSL can obtain is 24Mbps.
Even though, the result pointed out Singapore is ranked #24 for average download speed, but the average upload speed for Singapore is just 0.74Mbps! This only gives Singapore the 51th place among other countries. Singapore ISP should seriously consider to increase our upload speed!
