Playstation3 Slim and PSP GO in Singapore

Only few days ago on 1st Oct, you can finally get PS3 Slim Singapore local set. I realized Sony had announced the price of PS3 Slim weeks ago on GCA. The retail price is SGD512 and SGD412 for the latest PSP GO. First impression: These gadgets don’t sound cheap! This is sucks and PS3 doesn’t look like USD299 at all.

PSP GO

• USA: USD250 x 1.41 = SGD352
• Hong Kong: HKD1,899 x 0.18 = SGD341

PS3 Slim

• USA: USD299 x 1.41 = SGD421
• Hong Kong: HKD2,399 x 0.18 = SGD431

Singapore retail price is 20% more than US and HK! Don’t know how the smart sales persons at Sony figure out such price tag. They possibly assume Singapore all the way is doing strong even during economy crisis and gamers here are rich!

There isn’t any regional code protection on PS3. In Singapore, you can get a Hong Kong export set for SGD460~490. However, the only disadvantage of getting an export set means you couldn’t enjoy any local warranty. Even PS3 has much lower failure rate than Xbox360, I don’t think it is worth to take the risk.

Well Sony,  I can wait the price drop further more to get one.
