Wake on Lan

posted 29 September ,2004 @15:41

Last nite, I was trying something cool and new, but i failed. The whole idea is to remotely use my mobile phone to power up my pc while the pc is totally off (not sleep mode). I found out now motherboard and network card have a function call wake on lan (WOL), when they accepting the magic packet, they will auto power up. pretty neat!

my idea:
mobile phone (wap) -> internet server (send magic packet) -> router -> home pc wake up

But whole nite, I was stuck, I don know which part that really screw up.
1. the code – i wrote a php code, but i don know I got the magic packet send out correctly or not
2. router – becoz i’m behind the router, the targeted ip address might not the same. I don know i got the forward port setting correct or not.
3. on board network card – my motherbaord support WOL but i don know whether my onboard network card support or not.
Too many works to do, I lazy to identify where the actual problem lies on.

Here is a page of the WOL from dslreports.com
The WOL need user’s ip and the unique MAC address of the network card.
